Vining Purple Palace

The Purple Palace, officially known as Vining Palace, is a renowned bar and restaurant located in Vining, Minnesota. Established in the 1970s by Glenn and Helen Whiting, it has become a staple in the community, celebrated for its world-famous broasted chicken and distinctive purple exterior. ​

The building dates back to 1900, and over the decades, it has undergone several ownership changes, each contributing to its rich history. In early 2020, the Whiting family's daughter, Lynda Rubink, sold the establishment, marking the end of an era. Subsequent owners, including Jason and Kaari Speer, and Justin and Chelsea Speer, made significant renovations, enhancing the bar area with new lounge seating and modern amenities while preserving its classic charm. ​

In June 2024, Kevin and Tina Rasmussen of Battle Lake acquired the Purple Palace. They continued the tradition of serving broasted chicken and other local favorites, introducing subtle updates to the interior while honoring its legacy. Their efforts ensured that the Purple Palace remains a beloved destination for both locals and visitors seeking a taste of Vining's history and hospitality. ​

Today, the Purple Palace stands as a testament to Vining's community spirit and enduring traditions, offering a welcoming atmosphere and a menu filled with time-honored dishes.
